This morning I heard the news that a neighbor of ours Michelle, a daughter of one of my mom's friends, has been given less than a year to live after being recently diagnosed with cancer, which obviously sucks, especially since neither of them have had the easiest lives in the world to begin with, especially on Michelle's end. She's had quite a few health issues over the years and has been mentally challenged pretty much all her (I think) 30+ years, so it's never been easy. I'm not particularly close to them - my mom is much more so than I am - but it's still an absolutely terrible thing to go through for anybody you know, and their whole family is definitely in my thoughts now. It also didn't particularly help that later in the evening, my dad was involved in a small car accident that was the result of him looking away for only a second to set down his coffee and in turn rear-ending the guy in front of him, which got my mom all worked up because she really, really worries about the safety of everyone around her, even moreso than the average person. Thankfully, there's just minor damage to to the hood - nothing too serious.
Other than those two events, the last few days have been pretty much the same as usual, as I often find myself surfing online on various message boards/forums (particularly the one for one of the most awesome websites ever, homestarrunner.com - I'm such a hopeless addict to everything surrounding both the site itself and the HRWiki community at this point), and trying to find a darn job already. I've also had stretches where I'm constantly practicing on my acoustic and coming up with new musical ideas, and along with recording with Casey and Jeremy, it's all fueling my desire to seriously become a professional musician more than ever. I'm gaining more and more experience in both the songwriting, playing and with my recording software even production areas, and relistening to An Accidental Flash Of Genius on random, I realized I have way, way too many really good melodies and songwriting ideas to not actively pursue a musical career in some form. Sure, they're not always pulled off to their potential, because my lyrics and singing are somewhat... err... dumb, but that's where finding more band members with different strengths comes in to play. Oh, and talking to Jeremy a couple days ago, open mic night is definitely happening for us on Monday. I can't wait for that.
Most absurd song combination ever from listening to my 2800+ song MP3 playlist today: the first track on Sigur Ros' parentheses album (an incredibly sad-sounding repetitive piano song that has lyrics basically consisting of repeated phrases sung in a made-up language) followed by.... Run DMC's "King Of Rock". Random playlists are so much fun!
